In-Situ Thermal Desorption
ISTD
ISTD can be applied for in-situ remediation of all deposits (soil types). The method is particularly suitable in case of stringent requirements to the clean-up levels and request for quick treatment.
- High clean-up levels
- Quick remediation
- Remediate clayey, impermeable deposits
- Heat up to more than 100°C
ISTD differs from other remediation technologies by being able to remediate clayey impermeable deposits.
Volatile contaminants such as chlorinated solvents and light oils are removed when heated to approx. 100°C while heavier boiling compounds e.g. coaltar is removed at temperatures of several hundred degrees.
ISTD - renting of plants
Krüger's ISTD plant is furnished with a complete SCADA unit for on-line monitoring of all operating data including temperature data from thermal sensors installed in the heated soil.
Heating of an ISTD site is obtained through heaters placed in steel pipes which are installed in common wells. The heat is transferred in the contaminated soil matrix as a consequence of the soil's thermal conductivity. The heat increases the pollutants' steam pressure which results in the pollutants being transferred to gas and removed by a traditional soil vapor extraction system.
