In-situ remediation
An aquifer was polluted with chlorinated solvents from a metal factory. The pollution had spread beneath the town, including 367 houses, and formed a fan of pollution that was 2.5 kilometres long and 400 metres wide.
Krüger cleaned up the pollution using horizontal borings beneath the town, with little interruption to the people living and working in the area. Only a few discreet containers dotted around the town indicate that an efficient clean-up operation is still in progress.
