Increased carbon-consciousness
There is an increased concern among our customers about climate and CO2. Many municipalities have thus already chosen to enter into a climate-municipality agreement with the Danish Society for Nature Conservation by which the municipality is obliged to reduce its carbon footprint from own activities by at least 2% per year.
As one of the most active water technology companies in the world, Krüger and Veolia also recognize the importance of promoting global sustainability. Our focus is on creating innovative solutions and technologies that reduce the energy consumption in water and wastewater treatment. Our water solutions must be transparent as to the implications of the carbon footprint and the alternatives available for reduction of the carbon footprint.
We have developed a simple and transparent method to calculate the CO2 emission from our own technologies and in 2009, this method was implemented in the entire organization. At the same time we have the tools to calculate the total carbon footprint of a total plant, so that our customers are provided with the necessary information to make the optimal decisions about the future solutions.
However, we do not have a one-eyed focus on the "lowest" CO2 solution. Instead, we have chosen an approach which we call "Carbon-consciousness" in Krüger and Veolia in general. Our focus is based on the recognition that our customers in Denmark and abroad may have competing goals. The lowest CO2 solution may on occasion conflict with other environmental goals such as water quality or protection of the environment. Therefore, our strategy is to offer our customers solutions and technologies which will enable them to make carbon-conscious decisions. Our customers must feel free to come to us and discuss various technologies and make a conscious choice based on a professional approach to carbon-consciousness.
