Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies to treat pharmaceutical wastewater effluents with AnoxKaldnes™ MBBR technology and Actiflo® technologies.
Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies (VWS), global leader in water treatment, is a design & build company and a specialized provider of first-class turn key solutions to meet the needs of their pharmaceutical and biotech clients.
Recently awarded by Frost & Sullivan "2008 European Pharmaceutical Water & Wastewater Treatment Business Development Strategy Leadership" prize, Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies will design and commission a wastewater treatment plant at 700 m3/d to treat effluents from a pharmaceutical drug manufacturing site in Singapore. The plant consists of two key technologies, an AnoxKaldnes™ MBBR biological treatment and a high rate Actiflo® clarification unit. The combination of VWS technologies offers the client a flexible treatment capable of overcoming variable flow and an efficient solution to remove a highly concentrated COD wastewater.
The client, one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world, has awarded Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies (VWS) a contract to enhance and build a new wastewater treatment plant for its facility in Singapore.
AnoxKaldnes™ MBBR, is a compact moving bed biofilm reactor that operates continuously using specific plastic media to grow biofilm and provides effective biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) removal capability as well as ammonia and nitrogen removal.
AnoxKaldnes, a VWS subsidiary, has proven his successful industrial expertise in MBBR technology with more than 500 references worldwide in pharmaceutical, electronics, chemicals & food, beverage markets.
Downstream the AnoxKaldnes™ MBBR, Actiflo® the high rate, sand-ballasted clarification and flocculation treatment process (a VWS patented technology), will act as final sludge separation and high quality effluent discharge. Actiflo® also provides a footprint up to 20 times smaller than conventional clarification systems with similar capacity.
The plant has been design with an odour treatment system using activated carbon for treating gases before release to the atmosphere.
